Team work

Team work

My beloved Brighton & Hove Albion secured their Premier League survival with two games left to spare a couple of weeks ago.

No mean feat given it’s their first year in arguably the toughest, and most popular, football league in the world, which also saw a couple of Premier League stalwarts, including West Bromwich Albion, go by the wayside.

So what lessons can be learnt from surviving such a punishing environment, many of which challenges also face the business world and, in particular, public relations.

Brighton’s survival in the Premier League wasn’t just because they beat Manchester United to finally reach the magic 40 points. It was the culmination of preparation, forward planning, endurance and team work.

Just as importantly they made the most of what they had at their disposal as they don’t have the astronomical spending power of some of the bigger clubs.

The same approach of utilising every opportunity also goes for public relations, often when budgets are limited.

Creative thinking doesn’t cost anything. Putting a new angle on a press release, turning it on its head, thinking outside the box, can pay dividends.
