DIAMOND-JUBILEE

Why the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee sparkles for everyone

Apart from meaning an extra-long Bank Holiday weekend and more time to put your feet up, the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee offers additional reasons to celebrate, including from a PR perspective.

Newspapers, like every other business, have to compensate for workers being off for longer, perhaps operating with a skeleton editorial staff and subsequently have fewer news pages to fill due to lack of resources.

The good news is that many are hungrier than ever for topical, newsworthy and interesting copy which can be supplied to them.

If your organisation can fill that gap then you stand a reasonable chance that your story will be published in the news pages, and being seen as independent editorial it carries more weight than advertising.

There’s also the aspect that newspapers will be awash with Jubilee stories, so if you put forward a news item that is different, then you’ll not only stand a good chance of it being picked up but it will also stand out from the crowd.

Of course, online activity never sleeps so if you can also keep an internet presence, such as tweeting over the prolonged holiday period, then even better.

If these aren’t reasons enough to celebrate, then what are? Let the party begin…
